Interest charges are avoidable with a little routine. These five habits cover almost every case:

  1. Always pay the statement balance in full. The minimum payment only keeps your account in good standing — interest still runs on the rest.
  2. Pay a day or two early. Transfers can take a working day; the due date is when money must arrive.
  3. Time big purchases just after the statement date. That gives you the longest interest-free buffer.
  4. Never withdraw cash on a credit card. Cash advances charge interest from day one — no grace period at all.
  5. Check the dashboard before you swipe. Let the app tell you which card gives the most days today.
